Ross M. Kowalski
Ross Kowalski advises clients on a broad range of intellectual property matters, with a particular focus on patent and trademark prosecution, copyright registration, and the strategic enforcement of IP rights.
Ross regularly assists clients in protecting their intellectual property assets through pre-litigation enforcement measures, including drafting and issuing cease and desist letters and infringement notices. He works closely with clients to develop efficient enforcement strategies aimed at resolving disputes early and minimizing litigation risk while also advising on next steps when pre-litigation efforts require escalation.
Ross has significant experience in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing intellectual property license agreements, as well as preparing infringement and freedom-to-operate opinions. He supports clients throughout the patent prosecution process, from drafting provisional and non-provisional applications to preparing responses that secure patent allowances.
Drawing on his diverse technology background, Ross counsels companies across a wide range of industries, including telecommunications, manufacturing, consumer products, and medical devices. He is skilled in conducting IP landscape analyses, performing patent and trademark searches, and evaluating portfolios to inform IP strategy, identify potential risks, and support business objectives.
In trademark matters, Ross handles the full life cycle of trademark prosecution, including clearance, application preparation, and responses to USPTO actions. He also assists in copyright registration for a variety of creative works, including software, graphics, and literary content.
Ross has been registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office since 2015. Prior to his legal career, he worked as an engineer specializing in the design, programming, and installation of industrial control systems and data acquisition networks. His hands-on technical experience enhances his ability to understand complex technologies and advocate effectively for clients in innovation-driven industries.
Outside the office, Ross enjoys playing guitar and singing in the Northeast Ohio area. He also spends time biking, kayaking, and enjoying the outdoors with his wife and their two daughters.
