John A. Favret III
John Favret is an experienced litigator representing companies and professionals in complex civil litigation with a focus on products liability, professional liability, and business litigation.
John represents clients in all phases of litigation in state and federal courts. He litigates class actions, multi-district litigations, and consolidated proceedings. John brings a targeted, creative, and sensible approach to litigation. He appreciates the opportunity to partner with clients and learn their businesses to provide efficient and effective counsel on risk management and develop litigation strategies specifically tailored to meet client objectives. Whether he’s serving as national, regional, or local counsel, John ensures clients’ litigation plans are executed to finality – be it through the obtainment of a dispositive motion, the negotiation of a favorable settlement, or the presentation of the case at trial.
Throughout his career, John has defended medical companies and professionals – including pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers, hospital systems, physicians, and a pharmacy benefit management company – against claims of product liability, medical malpractice, business torts, and breach of contract. He has represented global food companies in commercial claims and mass tort claims. John’s experience also includes defending a former officer of a public company in various jurisdictions against state and federal claims asserted in shareholder derivative lawsuits, securities class actions, and RICO class actions.
Over the years, John has served as a volunteer Magistrate Judge for his city’s Juvenile Diversion Program, as a mock trial coach for a Cleveland city high school, and as a board member to the finance counsel of his local church. Additionally, John mentors new law students at Cleveland State University College of Law, volunteers at advice clinics held by the Legal Aid Society, and coaches youth sports.
While a student at the University of Wisconsin, John started four years on the Badger football team, contributing to two Big Ten and Rose Bowl championship teams and serving as co-captain during his senior year. Away from work, John and his wife enjoy spending quality time with their children and dogs, and cheering on all their alma mater’s sports teams.
