Carlo J. Spagnolo
Carlo Spagnolo represents and counsels clients in intellectual property matters, focusing on patents and trademarks.
In the realm of patents, Carlo advises both solo-inventors and Fortune-size clients at all stages of identifying, procuring, and protecting their IP in foreign and domestic matters. Whether working with a seasoned engineer or a first-time inventor, Carlo begins with a thorough discussion of the invention to identify the salient details and formulates a plan based on client needs. This may include drafting opinions on the patentability of inventions and freedom to operate, and/or filing provisional or non-provisional applications. At the prosecution stage, Carlo communicates with applicants to acquire meaningful scope of protection in a cost-effective manner. Outside of preparation/prosecution, he further counsels clients on infringement and validity matters and supports them in patent litigation matters.
Carlo’s prior patent experience focuses largely on the mechanical arts, including a wide range of technology fields, such as the aeronautical and automotive industries, kitchen appliances, nuclear reactors, medical devices, and electronic substrates, to name a few. Regarding trademarks, he assists in trademark searching and analysis as well as the registration process in both domestic and global portfolios.
Raised under Italian traditions, the keystone of Carlo’s character is family. Outside of the office, he enjoys laughing and cooking with his wife (and best friend) Dakota and chasing after his young son Franco. When time permits, Carlo can be found rebuilding, modifying, and tuning import cars or watching/playing lacrosse.
