Howell, Aaron

Aaron P. Howell

Aaron Howell is a talented and respected trial attorney who applies his extensive experience as a former federal and state prosecutor to represent clients in white collar criminal defense, sensitive internal investigations, and complex business litigation.

Throughout his career, Aaron has tried over 50 cases, including numerous complex matters involving multiple defendants and white collar criminal matters. He has been trusted to handle the most complex and serious matters in all the offices where he has worked, including the United States Attorney’s Offices in the Northern District of Ohio and the District of Puerto Rico. In addition to representing the United States for 10 years as a federal prosecutor, Aaron represented the State of Ohio as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Stark County and Summit County for a combined eight years. He often handled high-stakes cases involving defendants charged with serious crimes for which they faced long terms of imprisonment. His extensive experience as a prosecutor makes him well positioned to identify the best strategy and approach for our clients.

Aaron handles investigations and cases involving white collar crime, including public corruption, wire and mail fraud, tax evasion, tax fraud, illegal gambling, money laundering, banking offenses, healthcare fraud, securities fraud, antitrust, technology-related crime, trade secret offenses, government contract fraud, and environmental crime.

As an Assistant United States Attorney, Aaron honed his investigative skills working with federal and state agents investigating virtually every type of crime, including white collar matters, drug trafficking, and weapon and violent offenses. Aaron worked side by side with federal agents from various federal law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation; United States Secret Service; Drug Enforcement Administration; Internal Revenue Service; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; Department of Homeland Security; Environmental Protection Agency; and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Of the hundreds of federal cases Aaron indicted, 16 of them proceeded to jury trial, with each case ending with the jury siding with Aaron.

Aaron has also handled appellate matters in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Fifth and Ninth District Courts of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of Ohio.

Over the years, Aaron has served as a coach for the University of Akron School of Law’s nationally ranked mock trial team. Aaron also volunteers his time to assist a Canton area high school’s mock trial program.

Away from the office, Aaron plays competitive slow pitch softball and coaches his son’s baseball team. Aaron and his wife also enjoy spending time with their two German dogs, Nia, a German Shepherd, and Bo, a Lowchen, and cheering for the Browns, Guardians, Cavs, and Buckeyes.
