Brian Brookey Judges 15th Annual Williams Institute Moot Court Competition
March 2019
On March 23, Brian Brookey served as a judge at the 15th Annual Williams Institute Moot Court Competition at UCLA School of Law. For more than a decade, Brian has judged the competition, which is the only national competition dedicated exclusively to topics of sexual orientation and gender identity law. Competitors write an appellate brief on a current legal topic and argue the case before a panel of judges. This year’s topic involved whether sexual orientation is protected under Title 7, and, if so, whether a religiously affiliated college could invoke the “ministerial exception” to Title 7 when firing an administrator for coming out as bisexual.
