For the fourth time in the past year, Joe Morford has joined law firm leaders nationwide in their efforts to continue and/or supplement funding for the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) to maximize access to the legal system for low-income Americans. Most recently, Joe signed a letter to Patty Murray, chair of the United States Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee; Jerrold Nadler, chair of the Judiciary Committee; and Henry Johnson, chair of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet. The letter encourages Congress to support the request of LSC for a significant supplemental appropriation to enable LSC to address the short- and long-term consequences of the coronavirus pandemic on low-income Americans.

The letter states, “The pandemic has vastly increased the legal needs of the most vulnerable members of our communities. For instance, LSC estimates that more than 5.13 million U.S. households who qualify for LSC-funded services, are at risk of eviction. We are familiar with the great need because our firms have been providing pro bono legal services to those most impacted by COVID.”
