Marc Greenberg Quoted in MedPage Today on Alleged Failure of Hospital to Provide Notice to Deceased Patients’ Next of Kin
March 26, 2025
On March 25, Marc Greenberg was quoted in a MedPage Today article, “Hospital Slammed for Not Telling Families About Patients’ Deaths.” The article explores allegations that Mercy San Juan Medical Center transported deceased patients to off-site storage facilities without providing timely and required notice to their next of kin.
In August 2024, Marc filed a lawsuit on behalf of the family of one of such deceased patients – Jessie Marie Peterson – who had been admitted to Mercy San Juan on April 6, 2023 and died two days later. For more than a year, her family searched for her, until finally being notified by an off-site morgue that her body had been stored there. The lawsuit seeks a total of $15 million, including $10 million in punitive damages for Mercy San Juan’s “outrageous and inexcusable negligence and complete disregard for the dignity of Jessie and respect for the needs of Jessie’s family,” Marc said.
