Chad Eggspuehler Interviewed for Public Media Series Examining Effect of Ohio’s Laws and Rules on Transgender People

December 13, 2024

On December 12, WOSU Public Media posted and aired an interview with the legal team and applicant who sought equal access to birth certificate corrections for trans Ohio citizens in the Ohio Supreme Court, titled “One Woman’s Journey to Change Gender Marker Laws for Trans People in Ohio.” Featured in the interview are lead appellate counsel Chad Eggspuehler, along with co-counsel from Equality Ohio’s Legal Clinic, Maya Simek, and their client Hailey Adelaide, who tried for three years to change the gender marker on her birth certificate – a remedy that a recent federal injunction and policy from the Ohio Department of Health indicated was available to her. The case went to the Supreme Court of Ohio, but the judges did not settle the issue, leaving it to the probate court judges to decide for themselves whether or not to grant a birth certificate gender change.

The story and interview is the second in a two-part series, available in full on the WOSU Public Media website here. For more information, the first article in the series is available on its website here.
