Roylance (Lance) L. Bird

In his previous role, Lance was responsible for undertaking a variety of network security measures for a business technology services company. He routinely drafted policies and procedures guiding clients to cybersecurity best practices; assessed network environments against industry standard audit controls; advised and advocated for executives during audits; analyzed threat signals from network and endpoint security appliances and software; evaluated client needs and existing environments to design segmented and secure networks; remediated vulnerabilities in client environments; and guided clients through responding to a cybersecurity incident. Informed by his career, Lance focused his studies at Loyola on the intersection of data security, data privacy, and the law.

As a member of the Tucker Ellis Junior Attorney Corps, Lance brings this depth of experience to bear in supporting Tucker Ellis attorneys and clients with drafting California Consumer Privacy Act-compliant privacy policies, conducting thorough and technologically focused risk analyses, and developing information security policies and procedures that reflect industry best practices. He is certified by the International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2) as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional and by the EC-Council as a Certified Ethical Hacker.

Lance has assisted several clients in developing privacy policies and practices that are compliant with the strict consumer privacy regimes of California, Colorado, and Virginia. In business litigation matters, Lance uses the pragmatic problem-solving skills and client-centric approach developed in his prior career to advance clients’ interests in pending litigation.

During law school, Lance served as a student extern at the United States Attorney’s Office, Central District of California. Through this experience, Lance honed his legal research skills, learned practical skills from top federal prosecutors, and thrived in the demanding environment of the nation’s most populous federal judicial district.

In his free time, Lance enjoys camping, hiking, and spending time in the mountains surrounding Los Angeles. At home, Lance and his wife enjoy cooking, baking, and watching the Great British Baking Show.
