Brian Brookey to Lead Tucker Ellis Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee
July 21, 2022
Tucker Ellis is pleased to announce that intellectual property partner Brian Brookey has been named chair of the Tucker Ellis Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Committee. Mr. Brookey is a strong advocate for increasing EDI efforts within the firm, the legal community at large, and particularly the intellectual property field.
“I’m honored to take on this role, and I look forward to working with both our attorneys and our non-attorney staff to ensure that we continue to fulfill our commitment to build a truly equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace,” Mr. Brookey said. “This includes providing necessary support, resources, and education; intentionally recruiting from underrepresented groups; and focusing on partner and employee retention.”
Mr. Brookey’s commitment to national and community EDI efforts and initiatives include his involvement with the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association and the District of Columbia LGBT Bar Association. He also co-chairs the Pride and Allies Resource Group of the Intellectual Property Owners Association’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Before embarking on his new role as EDI Committee Chair, Brian both founded and served for several years as chair of the Tucker Ellis LGBTQ+ employee resource group, known as “lgbTE” – a role that is now shared by co-chairs Chad Eggspuehler and Andrea Glinka Przybysz.
“Our number one purpose as a firm is to give everyone we encounter a different and better experience than they can get from any other law firm,” said Tucker Ellis Managing Partner Joe Morford. “As he showed by founding and chairing lgbTE, Brian’s talent, focus, and creativity extend far beyond his law practice. He is the perfect choice to ignite our Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee to reach even greater successes than we have already realized as we strive each day to accomplish our mission.”
In his national practice, Mr. Brookey specializes in IP litigation, where he has specific expertise and success in representing both plaintiffs and defendants in patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret litigation. Admitted in both California and Washington, D.C., he has litigated cases in approximately 20 states. He also handles matters in U.S. Courts of Appeals from coast to coast, before the International Trade Commission, and with the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Brookey earned his undergraduate degree at Pepperdine University and his law degree at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Law.
