Tucker Ellis Pro Bono Client Granted Clemency

May 2016

On May 5, President Obama commuted the sentences of 58 federal prisoners serving severe mandatory sentences for non-violent drug offenses. Among the 58 inmates to be released is Tucker Ellis client Aundra Coats of Cleveland. Mr. Coats has served 11 years of a 20-year mandatory sentence, and is scheduled to be released in September.

Tucker Ellis received the case through the firm’s participation in the Department of Justice’s Clemency InitiativeJon Oebker, Adrienne Kirshner, Jennifer Mesko, and Tony Petruzzi worked on Mr. Coats’s case.

“This is great news for Aundra as he starts a new chapter in his life,” said Jon Oebker. “We were honored to represent him and participate in the Clemency Initiative.”
